A Walk In The Woods - Print
A Walk in the Woods was created to commemorate my Grandmother's life. She lived a full life being blind due to contracting Scarlet Fever when she was a child. I always found it interesting that her other senses were superior because she couldn't rely on her eyes. She could feel the difference in the thickness of dollar bills to help her determine what she was holding in her hand.
My grandparents had a large yard, so it was a long walk to the mailbox, and once or twice, she got lost. She once asked my Grandfather for a rope she could hold on to that would help guide her from the front door to the mailbox. With this in mind, I created A Walk in the Woods by merging the classic story of Hansel and Gretel using breadcrumbs to find their way back with how my grandmother found her way back.
When I first released this image, part of the proceeds went to the Pittsburgh School for the Blind. It felt so good delivering that check! Thank you.
Painted with watercolors, pen, ink, colored pencils, and oil pastels on an acid-free illustration board.
